Why Is Sedation Sometimes Needed in Pediatric Dentistry?
Pediatric Sedation Dentistry in Antioch, California
At Allstar Pediatric Dentistry, our goal is to make every visit safe, comfortable, and positive — especially for children who may feel anxious, have special healthcare needs, or require complex dental treatment. In some cases, sedation helps us provide care in the safest, least stressful way possible.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a mild, safe sedative that helps children relax during treatment. It’s delivered through a small nose mask and wears off quickly after the procedure. Children remain awake, responsive, and can return to normal activities afterward. It’s ideal for mild anxiety or short procedures.
General Anesthesia
For children who are very young, extremely anxious, need extensive dental work, or have special healthcare needs, general anesthesia may be recommended. A thorough examination and screening is completed prior to completing treatment under general anesthesia. Depending on your child’s medical history, treatment may need to be completed in a hospital setting. Safety is always the top priority!
Every child is different, and we carefully assess each situation to determine the safest, most appropriate approach to care. Your child’s well-being — both physical and emotional — is always our top priority.
